Kent

Kent

Pioneering filter cigarette brand introduced in 1952, now produced by British American Tobacco.

Filter Innovation

Kent was introduced in 1952 by Lorillard Tobacco Company as one of the first successfully marketed filtered cigarettes. The brand was named after Herbert Kent, a Lorillard executive. It pioneered the "Micronite" filter, initially containing asbestos (later replaced), designed to reduce tar and nicotine.

Historical Significance

Kent became popular during the 1950s-60s health concerns about smoking, promoted as a "safer" alternative due to its effective filtration. The brand was acquired by British American Tobacco through its purchase of Reynolds American.

Product Evolution

Modern Kent cigarettes feature advanced filtration technology and come in various strengths denoted by color: Blue (full), Gold (lights), Silver (ultra lights). The brand maintains its reputation for smoothness.

Global Presence

Kent is sold in over 70 markets, with strong positions in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. It remains one of British American Tobacco's key international brands.
